Visual examination (VT) is a method of non-destructive testing which can be performed at sight or through the use of aids such as lenses or endoscopes.
The visual inspection requires good and well-skilled experience and allows you to identify the areas to be inspected by other methods of control.
The direct visual control can be performed remotely, using a video borescope or endoscope, or directly. The use of lenses, lamps or similar device is allowed.
To get a reliable result for the visual inspection, it is necessary to perform the test at a distance of 60 cm, while the lighting must be between 150 and 600 lux.
The normative references of the visual method are:
- UNI EN 13018: Non-destructive testing - Visual inspection - General principles.
- UNI EN ISO 5817: Welding - Welded joints for cast steel, nickel, titanium and their alloys (beam welding excluded energy) - Quality levels for imperfections.
